Emissions control warning light on

Emissions control warning light came on yesterday. It is not flashing or Red.

Talked to dealer and they can book inspection in 2 weeks time. £75 + VAT just for getting fault codes!

Need advice, can I do fault finding my self? Once I know, what is wrong, I am ok to get it fixed at dealers.

It's frustrating, bought car in October 2014, just 1 month over warranty!

1) I see you are in a diesel, your DPF might need a regen?!? Have you been on a long drive recently or has it all been short stop/start journeys?

2) Do you have AA cover? If so call them out to look at it!

3) If no AA cover then try an independent Audi/VW specialist, it will be a fraction of the cost! As an example, my second service when I had the S3:

Cheshire Oaks Audi £365
Crewe Audi £401.19
Liverpool Audi £439.80
Audi specialist £220

Big difference!

Edit* Check that your diesel filler cap is on properly! sounds mad but that can sometimes throw a code up!

It has been short journeys, but I believe the warning for DPF is different symbol. I have done 17 miles motorway this morning.

If you want an inexpensive and very simple "tool" to read basic fault codes, I use one of these together with a simple, Carista free app down loaded to my android tablet and mobile - I keep it in the car. It's helped me and earned its money many times over for me already.

The recovery guy have found the fault!

It is the O2 sensor fault. He have reset the fault for now. If it comes back, I will get it replaced at local garage.

Does any one have any idea of cost? How much is O2 sensor?
