One thing I missed after having owned an A3 8V was the passenger mirror dip on reverse. The A3 8P never had this option, but the highline door control modules do support it. The idea originally came from this forum thread.

Mirror adjustment motor:
The 09-10 A3 8p facelift mirrors ("dumbo") are equal in shape to early A4/A5 B8-series and A6 C6 facelift. The mirror adjustment motor in the A3 8P has part number 8T0959578 (LHD) / 8T0959577 (RHD). This is the 3 pin non-memory version. But i.e. Audi A6 was also offered with option code 6XL (Exterior mirrors: with memory function, automatically dimming, electrically foldable/adjustable/heated), which includes a version of the mirror adjustment motor with memory function. This motor has part number 8T0959578A (LHD) / 8T0959577A (RHD) and 8 pin connector.

Door control module:
You need a highline ("MAX") passenger door control module. 8P0959802J, M or P. The standard ("MIDI") modules do not have the pins needed for this option to work. Pin out is the same as Golf/Jetta MK5

16 Pin Connector (Generation 3) – MY07 onwards
1 – vertical adjustment potentiometer (mirror) – models with automatic mirror adjustment
2 – vertical adjustment potentiometer (mirror) – models with automatic mirror adjustment
3 – horizontal adjustment potentiometer (mirror) – models with automatic mirror adjustment
4 – mirror adjustment motor (12v)
5 – mirror ground
7 – Mirror heater (12v)
8 – auto dazzling rear view mirror exterior
9 – horizontal adjustment potentiometer (mirror) – models with automatic mirror adjustment
10 – entry light (12v) shares ground with 11
11 – mirror heater (ground)
12 – mirror adjustment motor (12v)
13 – indicator (12v) – shares ground with 11
16 – auto dazzling rear view mirror exterior

Acquire parts and to the following:
- Remove passenger door panel, door control module and window frame (to make mirror removal easier)
- Remove mirror incl. wiring (Torx T30 hidden behind plastic cover)
- Remove mirror glass by pulling outwards with gentle force
- Remove mirror adjustment motor (small Torx in center and 2 small clips)
- Pull mirror cap upwards (a few clips to loosen) and remove lower plastic cowl
- You're now able to pull the wiring almost all the way through the mirror pivot
- Insert 4 repair wires through the rubber sleeve (I used 5 for future ambient light mod) and pull back wiring. This is the hardest part, but eventually you'll be able to get the new wires all the way through.
- Cut away old 3 pin connector and attach crimp terminals to all 7 wires (000979009E)
- The 8 pin connector to fit the new motor is not available for purchase. You can use a 12 pin connector from a Quadlock connector and reduce it to 8 pin size, and it will fit perfectly!
- Attach 4x crimp terminals to the door control module end and pin connectors according to the following wiring diagram:
  • LHD:
Mirror end - Door control module
    1 – 2 (vertical adjustment potentiometer)
    2 – 4 (mirror adjustment motor +12v)
    3 – 1 (vertical adjustment potentiometer)
    4 – not used
    5 – 3 (horizontal adjustment potentiometer)
    6 – 5 (mirror ground)
    7 – 9 (horizontal adjustment potentiometer)
    8 – 12 (mirror adjustment motor +12v)

  • RHD:
Mirror end - Door control module
    1 – 3 (horizontal adjustment potentiometer)
    2 – 12 (mirror adjustment motor +12v)
    3 – 9 (horizontal adjustment potentiometer)
    4 – not used
    5 – 2 (vertical adjustment potentiometer)
    6 – 5 (mirror ground)
    7 – 1 (vertical adjustment potentiometer)
    8 – 4 (mirror adjustment motor +12v)
- Coding is done with VCDS
  • Module 46 (CECM): Coding, long coding helper, byte 11, activate bit 7 ("Mirror lowering with reverse gear")
  • Module 52 (passenger door): Coding, use value from your old module and add +256 ("Seat memory AND/OR Mirror with memory function installed"). I.e. 0000252 + 256 = 0000508.
- Reassemble. Done!

Passenger door mirror should now dip when reverse gear is engaged if mirror adjustment knob is in R position (LHD) or L position (RHD). Mirror will return to normal position when car moves forward, ignition off or when adjustment knob is turned to another position.

come on mac...its near Christmas! My wallet is only so big AND another holy grail of a mod solved!!!

Now i noticed there is only 3module letters mentioned but i no off another module which has the same index as P but not sure if that would work with the 10wire Auto folding would anyone know thanks. It's just out off curiousity as i do have the Auto folding on my S3 already .
Or is there more in the J M P modules that control the mirtors and i am missing something just that the P modules are a lot more expensive than J + M

This is great, but too much DIY for a noob like me !!

Thanks!

What part number are you referring to?
The module ending with N has the same coding as J M P but wondered if it could to used to do the same functions as P can do if fitted to 2009 car ,

8P0959802N is a midline module. It does not have the pins needed for mirror memory operation, or auto folding for that matter. The same applies to my old module, 8P0959802K. Please refer to the attached picture.

But the coding options for auto folding mirror, memory etc. does show up in VCDS on both midline and highline modules. I guess this is due to the same label file for these modules.

Cheers for that , now it gives me a better understanding to why that module wouldn't work . Not sure if i now want to take my mirrors off to see if they are the 6xl .lol

Hello, I have a module 8P0 959 802 K, I bought my J module but when I connect I get errors. can you just a little help

Try the coding from your old module. What kind of upgrade are you doing?

lowering a mirror,I coded new and now works perfectly

thank you for your opinion and for a useful mod

Happy Holidays

can you tell me what is the right connection because I do not understand this
LHD
RHD
my car is left-handed,and I want the right mirror

LHD - Left hand drive, and connections are thus for right side mirror

Hmm, I wonder if I can get this working on my 8J TT :suspicion: I have already swapped my door module for highline ones, and the coding is the same as your 8P.

Is your module 46 the one with many small connectors or the one with 3x large connectors?

whether it will become a car for your model, but nothing prevents you from trying

I have such a module 8P0 959 433 J

Did you buy the mirror motor new or manage to find secondhand? They aren't common on eBay

I am considering buying a whole mirror and scavenging the motor and connector and then selling the rest

I bought second hand. But I think it is an RHD part (8T0959577A), since the left/right adjustment is inverted (wiring OK so no worries). They don't have the VAG part number on them. Thus I am replacing it soon and will be selling this one if everything seems to work correctly.

When I fitted power fold mirrors I noticed the adjustors had no VAG numbers, I think this makes them difficult to find due to the breakers not listing them by that

I plan to fit this to my TT soon

I have bought the adjustor motor and it should arrive tomorrow hopefully. It will probably be a while until I get to fit it but I'll update here when I do

My part has arrived. Before I run the wires, do you know if it will function like the original one with just pins 2, 6 and 8 wired up so I can test it?

Yes it will. No position memory of course but the motor will work, be aware the pins are different than on your current one.

Thanks, will try that when the weather allows

No worries about the pins, my replacement motor came with the connector. I'll cut the old pins off

Update regarding mirror adjustment motor and part numbers:
Since they have no VAG numbers on them, I have tried to figure out how to identify left and right units. I believe the following is correct.

- 8 pin left side motor (8T0959577A) has MCi part number 98561 (top) and letters AE (bottom)
- 8 pin right side motor (8T0959578A) has MCi part number 98562 (top) and letters AC (bottom)

Any thoughts?

I'll look at mine when I get home, mine is from a RHD A7 passenger side. According to ETKA the VAG part numbers you posted in the first post as fitted to many Audi's including the A7 MK1

I'm not sure it is on the 8P but on my TT the back of the standard mirror plate (where the small torx goes though) is inset, whereas the A7 one I have is raised. I am going to dremel it off, did you have to do that?

I ground away some of the metal behind where the motor mounts, and trimmed the motor back plastic. Probably a bit different to the A3 but I have the wiring working now, just need to reassemble

Thanks for your help

I believe the following is correct.

- 8 pin left side motor (8T0959577A) has MCi part number 98561 (top) and letters AE (bottom)
- 8 pin right side motor (8T0959578A) has MCi part number 98562 (top) and letters AC (bottom)
I can now confirm that MCi p/n 98562 works correctly for passenger side mirror on my LHD vehicle.
I also tried 1K0959578A since that part is more available, but motors had reversed polarity for both vertical and horizontal adjustment.

Hello to all. I am considering doing this mod as well.
I have an 5-door A3 facelift 2010 model (09/2009 build).

As I have seen, it is easier to remove the whole window frame to work then with the mirror.
Is it easy to reinstall the window frame and the window regulators?

As for the 8 pin connector needed, it is for the mirror side right? (some people have a green one). In the module side, exists the connector with empty slots?

I have 2 spare M modules if anyone is interested
@ch1z64 do you have any module left? Why bother with eBay if there is one available from the forum.

Best regards,
George

Hi I stumbled across this and frantically checked that I still had the loom in my toolbox. I finished the instal today and I couldn’t see a vag number on the connector but if people wanna get one I found this online if it helps, instead of cutting down a quad lock one this is the oem connector used

Nice write up, I'm looking into this mod but I can't really tell what I need from your manual.

I have standard mirrors, only heated. I drive a LHD so I guess I need the following;

Mirror adjustment motor: 8T0959578A (2x)
Module (with motor): 8P0959802J, M or P (2x)
Terminals for the wires: 000979009E (or the connector @Troubs12 linked above me :) )

And this mod only describe the dipping, but when having a highline module with motor on it, it should be possible to let the mirrors fold itself right?
You need 1 motor 1 only as it only works on the passenger door. Yes if you get highline gen3 modules you can recode them for fold on remote.

You'll only need the motor for one side, as only the passenger side is dipped. The part numbers for the motor are different on LHD and RHD because it's the respective passenger side on both cars

As for the mirrors folding, that is separate and unfortunately there is no simple way to get them folding when locked

Can you share info about the folding, as there is no straightforward coding for that. Are you using vcp?
