Why won't a VW dealerships diagnostic system work on my S3, (clearing fault codes and the like) are VW and Audi dealership systems running on different software ?

The diagnostic systems are the same but the VW dealer will not have the correct software for an Audi vehicle.

There was somebody selling a HEX-CAN cable earlier today...maybe you should look at that.

Thanks for that, looks like I will have to go to my local Audi dealer at £98/hour instead of a favour from someone I know at the local VW dealership.

Should have explained, have been retrofitting cruise so it was clearing faults and enabling cruise control.
The reason I mentioned VW was that a chap we both know well offered to do the setting up but with no joy so had to go to the Audi dealership today and pay the money.
As Dave explained the VW diagnostic software will not work on Audi cars although I found out today that it will work on earlier models.

Anyway job done, now have operational Cruise Control.

Oh well my mate could have done it that has his own business and used to work for Teeside Audi......dare I say much cheaper than they would have charged you!

At Least it was still cheaper than the factory fit option at current prices so am reasonably happy.
