Crankshaft/camshaft position correlation sensor bank 1 sensor B 16401.

Found this fault on a used RS3 I picked up,it’s accompanied by Limp mode limited to 4000 RPM although it clears when you switch the car on and off it always returns especially when giving more Gas.

Any ideas,I don’t Have access to VCDS,thanks

Depending where you are based someone local maybe able to scan your car with vcds or likewise for some beer tokens.
Failing that you will have to suck it up and get the car into a specialist for proper diagnosis and repair, if the job is out of your comfort zone mate.

I’m In wishaw Scotland,I’ll check the forum if someone with VCDS is local,I’ll try and get a diagnosis first before I can find out if it’s beyond my DIY skills, hoping it’s just a sensor

I believe the sensor you are talking about is item number 14. It shows you where it is on the engine block. How difficult it is to get out someone on here maybe able to tell you.

Could be a sensor issue if you are lucky . Personally I would be driving the car as little as possible until you have the fault resolved. If this is more than a sensor and is an issue with the physical timing because something has jumped/ worn or is failing you could end up with a very big bill if valves start connecting with pistons.

Happened to my 2016 rs3 was the variable valve timing solenoid intake side, replace both £90 each from Audi.

If you've got vagcom check intake or exhaust cam angle should be out quite a bit (standard range is + or - 8 degrees) also remove both solenoids, supply power to them to see if they click open and close.

Sorry to flag this up from and old post. I’m having the exact same problem. Same code etc. turn the car off and on and it will go away. Did you ever get to the bottom of this? Outcome and what solved it?
