Clutch pedal went to the floor while driving this morning, no loud noises or cracks, quick look at the pedal in the dark and both the pedal and the white plastic clip look ok at a glance. Limped the car home with no clutch at all and when I arrived there was a faint smell of burning clutch. Clutch has been fine (no slippage) up until now.

How can I diagnose pedal, master cylinder, slave cylinder or clutch?

Also there is a very slight noise when the car is idling now, sounds like the clutch is ever so slightly engaged.

Mine did this, was a failed slave cylinder. If it is the slave its a gearbox off job.

My a3 8l clutch pedal went to the floor from snapping,is this what you meen its gone to the floor?

slave cylinder and release bearing totally shagged... worn thru

its nearly back together now..
