We knew it was coming, the death of the taxdisc, but there are also a few wholesale changes to the system apart from just losing the taxdisc you need to display on your windscreen.

BBC News - Car tax disc to be axed after 93 years

So do you guys see it as beneficial that any remaining tax is refunded to you when you sell your motor, and that the new owner must tax his new purchase on the spot before he can drive it away, so he needs to get it insured aswell to do it! And we can no longer advertise the car as TAX and Tested, so it could be the end of bangernomics for some.

Thoughts?

Gone will be the days when you could go out on a sunday to view a motor do a deal & drive it home Unless you have trade plates, even during the week you will need a pc or a smartphone to access the internet to tax & ins a car while your at the sellers premises, i can see a lot of people winging it to get the vehicle home.

You can buy insurance online 24/7 these days, and correct me if I'm wrong, the new roadtax system will also be available 24/7. Obviously, this doesn't really cater for specialists modified car policies etc.

Harder to spot the scum sucking tax dodgers :motz:

Also if you had the Tax back with less than a month you wont get a refund and also if you Tax the car at the end of the month you will have to pay that full month

You're suppose to be buying roadtax on that basis NOW, but yeah, if I purchased a car on the 26th, I'd be stupid not to wait until the 1st of the next month to but roadtax!

I wonder how much extra tax will be paid cos the seller wont get a refund for the month in which a car is sold and the buyer has to tax it again for that month. If I was the buyer I would ask the seller not to notify until the end of the month. It would be fairer if they allowed the buyer to keep that month and to tax from the beginning of the next one

but the car you just buy will still show road tax if its taxed so you can get it home

also no need for a laptop or a smart phone

just call them up and do it that way.

as the seller I would tell you NO as that means it will stay in the sellers name till then.

so not worth the risk of speeding tickets etc.

I think people will start SORNing cars to save money but thats just my thoughts

The end of receiving a lovely bunch of expired tax discs when buying a used car from another owner with OCD - what a shame. I may just print my own for the sake of it.

Pretty sneaky and dishonest move on the governments' part. The lower end of the market is where things will suffer, as mentioned people will probably SORN to save.

Print me some whilst you are at it Paul! Seems a shame to waste my alloy Audi-Sport tax disc holder!
