Cambelt Change

Hi all, pretty new to this forum!
I've got an 06 2.0tdi Quattro S-line.

Its at 55k at the minute and obviously its due a cambelt change.
I'm from the Guildford Area, so looking for a garage to do it really, the car is my pride and joy so have someone recomend a decent audi specialist would be much appreciated.

Obvioiusly i'm happy to travel a little but, but i don't want to be going to the other end of the country to do it!

I'm looking at having it remapped too, maybe have them done at the same time. Again, any garages/maps to recommend?

look at the top of the fourm i think its there. sould be done at 60k
 
It's 80k you should change the cambelt. I have a 06 2.0 TDI & when i went to a vw/audi specialist to get mine changed with 70k on the clock i was told it is 80k you should change it along with the water pump. The specialist i went to used to be the foreman mechanic at highland audi & told me it has nothing to do with how old the belt is, it is purely based on mileage only.
 
ad autotechnik surrey give Danny or Simon a call top guys reasonable as well but most of all good at what they do
 
is it different for other engines? The handbook for my mrs 2005 A3 1.6 says 60k or 5 years??
 
I think most wary owners go for 60k miles or 6 years - whichever comes round first

Just copied what it says in the Audi Service Schedule for my A3 under "Additional Work"
Although it does also Note "The work described here is correct at the time of going to print."

Especially if the belt is in very good condition, I really don't want to fork out £400 at the 5 year mark especially as mine has only 32k on the clock
 
Had mine done recently at just under 70K. Had one go on another car at 24k miles a couple of years ago It was due to the manufacturers fault so they covered the whole bill thankfully as it's not pretty, I think it was £2400.

Always better to be safe than sorry although I would say that 55k is being very safe.

A mate of mine has an 8yr old Alfa which was 8k away from the cambelt change when the belt decided to snap! He was told by an indy that the reason they now put a time limit as well as mileage on belts is due to the rubber perishing over time.

I'm on just under 70, looking at getting it done in the spring, got quoted 220 by my mate (audi/vw specialist) which is a very good price! Aswell as the waterpump included in the price
 
I did my MY06 20T at 20,000 miles earlier this year. The way i looked at it is, i would rather pay the money and get it done now. Rather than risk the belt snapping and causing £££'s damage.

I do know were your coming from but what i was told all A3's after 2003 have a much stronger belt on them compared to the 8L models. 8L models are on time/distance, but the 8P models are based purely on mileage. As i say the specialist i went to used to be the foreman mechanic at highland audi & is well known in inverness for his knowledge & workmanship. Pretty much everyone i know with a vw/audi never use the main dealers, they always use kennys auto vw/ audi specialist. I'm currently on a long life service which will be due about 78k so i'll get the belt & pump changed then.
 
I've just had a longlife service which will take me to 6 years, I would of expected audi to point out that the cambelt needed doing next year!

All I've got to go by now is my service book which states 80k, if it snaps before I return to Audi in 2 years time I'm going to kick up some serious stink

Well as i say again (sounding like a broken record here) I was told by not only a specialist but also a guy who was the FOREMAN mechanic at a main audi dealership that a 8P A3 2.0 TDI is a 80k cambelt & waterpump change, doesn't matter how old the belt is.

take your chance but i think ignoring audis advice on this one just seems a recipe for a big repair bilk

I'm no taking a chance pal i'm taking my advice from someone who knows what there talking about, unlike yourself who's taking it of the STEALERS. Think about that while eating your oysters!

yeah i know cant wait, what you having for your xmas dinner? ......oh yeah of course i forgot, obvious really.
 
Was told 75k or 5 years today by stirling audi for my 2008 sportback
