Bleeding brakes

I thought it had worked ok no air no bubbles from any calipers or mc etc , ran at least 2ltr through ... should i use it again or not

I would say yes, give it another go, it sholdn't do any harm, will get rid of old fluid and replace with new if nothing else.

They also do one without having to use the spare wheel attachment , you just pump it up like a garden sprayer

ah no not that one sorry

This is what I’ll be using bud, it’s about £20 from amazon. Seen a few people use this always gets good results and removes all air bubbles etc.

Before taking it to a garage and spending money I would definitely try the ezibleed again as you’ve got nothing to lose.

I was adamant there were no air bubbles in my system but after re-doing mine for a good few minutes per caliper it sorted them and they were better than before I started the whole process.

Well thats encouraging thanks , and i have room to do it in the dry - i presume i could leave the wheels on , just jack it up a bit to get to nipples again ... did you have the same gunson one i pictured ?

Yeah mines the same kit. I suppose you could leave the wheels on?

When I reluctantly redid mine, I noticed that the colour of the fluid changed, so the first time just pushed the old fluid down. Also what order did you complete the wheels.

Then both master cylinder nipples I didn't pressure bleed those just cracked them to let out the air.

Well thanks for all the help guys , went through the whole process again today took my time , bled each caliper and let about 1/4 litre through each caliper .. the ns/rear i had to open about half a turn to get any fluid to come all the way through until it started to fill the tube and drain ,then when fluid came through i tightened back up slightly and let it bleed about 1/4 litre i did see a few bubbles for the first few seconds ... anyhow did all four and it only ****** sorted it :yahoo: didn't even need to tough mc nipples .....

great forum with loads of help :thumbs up:

Glad to hear it’s all sorted.

No need to spend money on a garage either :)

Yes i am thanks , great sense of achievement , when you know in the back of your mind that you have the capability to it ...
thanks again for the help ..

now the next thing is ,(but in no rush to get done )its off the road for winter so i am getting all the jobs done slowly ready for spring time ... it failed mot on emissions .. but the car wasn't even warmed up properly so not too worried about that part , but also failed on the ASR light ...

Have you scanned for any codes, failed emissions and that light could suggest MAF is starting to play up or a vacuum/boost leak might be somewhere.

Ah ok thanks , i only tried to read the codes with a generic obd2 cheapo thingy with an app on my phone and didn't bring up anything so i presume i
need to have it done at local specialist ?

no idea how old the maf is ... car is getting on for 18 yrs old now though so i suppose a lot of things are going to start needing to be replaced

Do you know anyone with vcds to scan for fault codes? If not look on the vcds map see if something near by to do it for you a garage will charge you £40+ to scan it

You're an Audi owner now get a blue kkl lead from eBay for a fiver and download vcds lite.

A generic odb2 reader will not have access the non ecu based error codes raised. Like ESP, ABS, AWD, AIRBAG. But vcdslite can, it also returns additional errors for the ECU a generic reader can't.

Just like that bud.... it’ll be good practice for you to scan it yourself with VCDS. Like Stuart said, now you own one of these cars you’ll be using it regularly ;)

You don't need the CD, if it is a kkl lead, you can download vcds lite from Ross-tech. There's a few threads about using it but essentially plug it into a laptop and the odb2 port and see what 'com port' was allocated to the cable and set that as the vcds communication port. And away you go.

Brilliant, that sounds very simple for my simple brain hope my brain and vcds match up :thumbs up: down loaded it and ordered cable

thanks
