I have found a nice set of bbs ch for a good price. I am just concerned if the 8.5j will rub or not. Can someone confirm for me. I have tried to search but can't confirm this. Thanks!

You need to find out what offset they are mate, not all 8.5J wheels will be the same offset. I'm sure the resident A3 wheel guru N8 will be along shortly to advise you 
My 8.5 are ET48 and fit perfectly, and should fit down to ET38 too. Not sure what the highest you can fit is, inner edge needs to clear the suspension strut.
Thanks for the info so far guys. I'll find out the exact measurements tomorrow and will post back here.
My wheels are 8.5 ET45 and sit pretty flush to the arch up front. They catch very occasionally with a 225/40 tyre.

I looked at a set of. 18" x 8.5" ch's and the offset was 35, I don't know if it would all be the same
