Hi,

So my 2011 S5 sportback is booked in for service next week, same independent specialist as last year. Last year I had the full service, oil change, and all the filters etc. Fast forward one year, the cars covered around 5.5k miles. The garage said just the engine oil change is required (i.e an interim service) as I had all the filters replaced last year and the car hasn't covered that many miles.

Is this correct? I'm struggling to find the service schedule for my specific car on Audis website, but I did read somewhere about 1 year or 20k miles (whichever comes first) for all the filters. I wouldn't mind paying extra to have everything changed again.

Also, regarding the supercharger belt, the garage wasn't too sure if it was a serviceable item, and said to check with the mechanic on the day. Any thoughts on this? (fyi, I enquired about this in the past with another garage, and was told the belt is normally inspected for wear and tear, and if it does need changing then it gets changed). I know alot of people here do have it changed at around the 60k mark.

Cheers people

Yes that's correct. However if I were you I'd consider time-based servicing even though Audi don't always specify it. A 60K 2011 S5 low mileage so if the plugs have never been done then I'd recommend it. Same with the belts. Plugs an belts are due somewhere in the 60K region. What gearbox do you have? Audi only require ATF to be changed but it's a good idea to have the gear oil done too. My 2015 S5 has done 21K and I recently had AFT and gear oils changed on my sports diff. I'll have both oils on my gearbox changed next year (I only had the ATF changed at the 1st gearbox service).

I have the stronic gearbox - the Ob5 version. I had the gearbox oil (no filters just oil) changed around 48k mileage, probably around 2 years ago now. Is the ATF the filter within the gearbox?

Found my invoice for my service last year, looks like the oil was changed, along with the oil filter, air and pollen filter. I seem to remember the garage saying the spark plugs didn't need changing as they looked okay. They mentioned it was the long life sparkplugs made from titanium i think.

I'll push them to change the sparkplugs this time. Trouble with getting the supercharger belt changed is, I would hope the garage would know what they are doing! When I booked my service in, the chap on the phone didn't know if it was a serviceable item or not (he may not have been a mechanic).

ATF = automatic transmission fluid. The gearbox has 2 independent oils. ATF lubricates the clutchpacks & mechatronics, hypoid (gear oil) lubricates the gears. Officially only the ATF needs to be changed every 38K for the S5. But the RS5 has the same gearbox and also needs the hypoid oil changed every 19K. Belt is definitely a service item - same schedule as the plugs I believe.
