I herad various stories about engines lasting only 100k km (approx 60k miles) or needed very expensive repairs - is this true, or are these just really bad cases (or folks who havent maintained their cars properly)?

Any views / experiences much appreciated!

Thx

i cant see any car company making engine that only last 100km/60k more so audi mate

Correctly sericed etc should these cars go for a very long time - the V8 is known for being bullet proof if looked after!

Was there no a link posted very recently in this section with a bunch of Finish S4's with well over 200k km on them?

When I was looking a few months back there was an A8 4.2 with 450k (miles) on it.

There's a thread on Audizine at the moment about S4s with 160k miles plus.

thanks - i would have thought these engines last a while (i.e. 150k / 200k +) but heard some horror stories...

It's more the other parts like clutch flywheel, alternator, starter motor and possibly timing chains and tensioners (mainly) that are considered weak. the AVS is not the best service plan for the V8, but most will have been on this! Regular synth oil changes is vital for a long life
