Cars booked in for a Timing belt kit with the 4 pulley's/tensioners, aux belt and waterpump.
They advised fitting Gates equipment to keep warranty in order ??

I'm buying the items myself (with their trade discount) which are coming to around £160. Labour for the work is £150 in total. Using a local mobile mechanic with a good reputation and has done loads of similar work from happy customers. Never used a mobile guy before just hoping all goes well lol. I've changed timing belts myself on my driveway but only on old bangers!! Wouldn't trust myself on a car I need to be reliable.

Just wondering if £310 is average price all in?? Seems decent enough to me.

I'd say so, I think audi charge around £400

Gates is reputable

Edit: apparently main dealers can charge upto £600, reputable independent audi/vw specialists charge around £400, so yeah you're getting a decent enough deal

Cheers. I was going to order a Continental kit but he said Gates was the preferred kit. Never heard of it that was all. Price wise its about the same.

I paid £550 from Audi in rip off south. But I do get free MOT's for life and that did include the Waterpump as well. I did it for the stamp.

Hate paying that amount its a joke. But if it does fail after the works been done by Audi you are in a pretty strong position going forward.

It's give and take really.

You mean "Contitech"? Gates and contitech are both decent quality.. I'm not gonna lie, I don't even have a clue what my kit is on my A3 but I had a few Vauxhall V6s in the past (Omegas, brilliant engines) and used Gates on all of them

To be fair, a few hundred quid for a vital part that only needs doing every 6 years or so isn't actually bad value... as long as you have the car that long :)

I'm using DAYCO and SKF pulleys + Meyle HD water pump kit for BKD was 100£, and 310 is a bit expensive IMO, on our car is like 2 hour job (easily) also if you charge 20£ per hour still is 40£ not 160 but the thing is to get right tools. Gates are also good quality however I seen they was cheaper than DAYCO.

For paying a professional to do the job, that is a good price - I'd be more than happy. When I had mine done 2 years back Audi were around £550 and a VAG independent in my area £400

On Euro carparts it's down as "continental contitech".

To be fair I've had the car for 2 yrs and and only has 45k on it (2011 model) and so be keeping it quite a few yrs if it's reliable as were after a 2nd hand RS5 in a few yrs so this will be the daily commute car we will share.

Guy says it's down as 5 hrs to change everything. No idea if that's right but I paid £400 to have similar work done on an insignia at a garage 2 yrs ago and that took 4 hrs so £150 Labour seems fair.
