Strange Engine Noise

Hey all!

I've bought my A4 2.8 V6 a while ago. Something strange that I can't figure out.

When driving the engine makes a strange noise, hard to describe. It almost sounds like the sound worn brake pads would make (screaming sound), but coming from the engine. It just happen between 1 - 2200 Rpm. Any advice? Can it be a belt or tensioner? What must I look for and where???

Hmm. That's weird. Can you record the noise at all?

Can't tell. It sounds like something on the belts or pully. It's only when you rev the car. No noise on startup or idling. Also no noise on constant engine revs. Really confusing.... Will go for a drive and listen carefully. Maybe I can hear where the noise is coming from.

the first question is... what does the sound vary with?

does it vary with engine speed or road speed etc? that will give us an idea of the cause

It's only with engine speed. Road speed have no effect.
