Hi Guys,

Managed to bag myself a S-Tronic Gear Knob from Audi A3 8V

When it arrived in the post the button was clicked in

But wasnt too difficult to click out once the gear knob was apart.

I know its possible to fit to an 8P as I have seen Nigel's (NHN) 2nd thread from which he upgrades from the S3 round style DSG knob to the 8V S-Tronic.

However, I don't feel comfortable enough to have a go at it myself knowing the risk involved (snapping the plastic lever).

So was wondering if anyone in or around Birmingham can carry out the job?

As always, any thoughts, comments, opinions and help is appreciated! :)

it will fit the same way as the 8P dsg knob.

last week i installed my 8P dsg know and it was super simple. twisting the plastic isnt actually really hard, it took me like half an hour, just grab it from the bottom of the plastic and dont get close to the hole and you will be fine.
try to heat the steel part, it will keep the plastic warm

Thanks for the reply mate !
You make it sound easy
Did you replace your gearknob with the 8V style one or S3 style?

8P S3.
if you're gonna do it yourself, dont use a screwdriver, just use pliers.
what you can do also, is lift the plastic, and heat the inside of the plastic rod every couple minutes.
here's how it looks now

Thanks for the tips!

The interior on your car looks well sweet!

Did you also retrofit your steering wheel?

Also did you break the clip off the old gaitor to release it from the shaft?
If so what did you use to hold it to the shaft when finishing?
I know some guys have used a cable tie, but the bottom of the 8V gear knob looks like there isnt enough room for a cable tie and if you pull on the gear knob a little it comes away from the gaitor so its not very secure o_O

in my case, i used the gaitor that came with the knob, so there was no problem.

in your case, you gotta replace the gaitor from the 8v knob to your old knob.

you can just use a ziptie, or in the worst case, glue it. once the knob is installed, the gaitor is supposed to stay on its place, so just use anything that gets it stucked.

Oh ok so the gaitor that come with the 8V knob wont fit?
Though as much when i was looking at the clips at the bottom but thought maybe there might be a way :D

hmm thats a good idea, didnt come up with that.
take off the 8v first and try to fit it. if it does, there you go

Thanks for all your help mate, much appreciated!

Also had a look at your thread about your MFSW, hope you get it sorted!

Ash187 and NHN (Nigel) would probably know best about MFSW's !
