Hi guys, I have just checked my oil level and to my horror there is a milky film on the inside of the filler cap. There is none on the dipstick and the oil is clear and clean. Is because of the cold weather and the fact it was after a short run? Or is this indicative of a head gasket starting to go? The coolant level is fine and shows no sign of contamination at all. It is a 2,8 V6 with only 109000 miles with full history .

i read somewhere recently that doing short trips in cold weather can cause condensation on the inside the rocker cover, so when u take the cap off you see the milky crap.

A longish run should sort it out.

Can also cause problems with exhausts, condensation causing rust.

ye its pretty normal in cold weather, when you dont let the engine warm up fully.

If you give it a run it should go away.

i emptied the catch tank on my golf the other week when i did the oil change. it was FULL of mayo and water

its just the condensation you get in this weather
