1996 A4 1.8T water temp guage problem

Hi,

I have a 1009 A4 Avant 1.8T Sport and have a problem with the water temp gauge on the dash. The temp reading never really gets above 70 degrees unless stuck in heavy traffic when it might reach 90. I am assuming this is a sender problem or thermostat problem. Anyone any ideas?

Most likely the thermostat. I had exactly the same problem and replacing the stat resolved it.
