Hi ,
I'm getting confused, firstly what are expected to pay for a 80k service, secondly shouls i get the cambelt done at the same time, one audi dealer say's you can go up 120k miles and one say's it's best to change at 80k. What is correct?

How much are you expected to pay for the service and cambelt change?

cheers
rav

According to the service schdule, the timing belt should be done @ 115K.. Sounds a bit high to me but thats what state.

So doing it a 80k means you are changing it 35k too early, thought i'd feel more confident changing it at 80k. 115k just seems too long..

Funnily enough I got a very nice, official Audi card through the post today from my local stealers as "according to their records my cambelt is due for replacement" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Seeing as my car's only done 39,000 miles, I continued reading through the bumpf and it states that Audi "Recommend's that the cam belt on your vehicle is replaced every 60,000 miles."

It then goes on to say "Cam belt failure can land you with a nasty bill, whereas the cost of having a new belt fitted can come as a pleasant suprise!!" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

"For an Audi A4 1.9Tdi, for example, the cost including VAT is only £395.00"

So then, we now have recommendations to change @ 120,000 80,000 and now 60,000 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Confused...? I know I am /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif

Guys i have just checked my service book and under 'Additonal work' it says the toothbelt for camshaft drive on the 4cyl 5V 1.8 petrol engines must be changed every 115,000 miles. It does then go on to say that it must also be changed more frequently on certain models.

Therefore on the S3 it may need to be changed alot earlier because of the extra stress it has to cope, as mentioned earlier.

The question now is though how much sooner does it need to be changed.. 60K or 80K ???

The plot thickens!!

Had one done at 80k on an A4, I would get the dealer to advise and get them to put it in writing.

A friend of mine just gave his A4 2.8 Quattro in for a 80,0000 mile service. Audi told him his cambelts and tensioners are in need of replacement @ 80,000miles. They quoted him just under £700 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif for the job.

Oh and they wanted to charge him £80 for a brake fluid change!!

How can they get away with charging this kind of money for a cambelt change?? Absolute Maddness!!

It's all labour, especially on a V6, takes a good 5 hours as the front of the car has to come off, which is why I can't believe they don't do the water pump at the same time. Unless you're still under warranty find a good specialist, it will be nearly half the price. Autotechnik in Southampton did my water pump, tensioner and belt for £345, after I'd spent £700+ at Audi for just the belt last year. Thanks Soton Audi, nice one.

Somebody on this board posted a photostory of them changing their own cambelt about 6 months ago. Very scary and very big job - I really wouldn't want to do that. I think the general opinion at the time was that we could all see why Audi charge what they charge for it.

Rav

I have spoken to him, i told him you will give him a call to discuss what you need done to you car.
He is a technician for Audi main dealer, so he can get OEM parts for trade..

I will PM you his details..

Pal..

By the way if anyone else needs a Audi mechanic in the East London \ Essex let me know and i will be happy to put you in touch with one.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif

By the way Fontain motorsport in Iver said i needed a new cambelt on my 36,000 mile service /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burningmad.gif guess they were perhaps trying to stitch me, i never used them in the end, walked in there to see Audi keys scattered with noone around, that would of really [censored] me off if that was my carkey sitting there waiting to be stolen!!!
Let alone their inability to quote me apart from saying ooooh tut tut full service, it's gonna cost you.
