A3 Idle issue, help needed

hello guys,

i have a 1.6 A3 1998 model.

low end revs are bouncing and can stall whilst slowing down. is this issue to do with the idle valve or something else?

also what would the cost to rectify this?

do a search mate, a common issue - air related so first check your air intake system

hmmm MAF?

get somec arb cleaner on it? this may work!

Maf is possible, but could also be the air filter etc...best to look at the simple things first..

Could also be temp sender, is it worse or the same when the car is cold or hot?

TBO i havent noticed but my brother said its a begger to start in the cold

Temp sender would be the best place to start, sounds like it's giving the ECU duff info. The ECU will adjust the fuel/air mix based on this duff info, so stalling, bad starting and idling issues will result. A new one is only £20 from your dealer and is an easy DIY fit.

andy thats ace i fouind a new one on ebay for £12.50 would this be listed i the haynes manualas i have one!

Do you need to reset anything when replacing the temp sender?
