Just forked out nearly £900 for a major service on the S3, discs etc. new anti roll bar and a few other odds and sods for the car. Now the sunroof switch is knackered and the sunroof doesnt close properly, or not where it should do anyway, this isnt to costly or at least i thought it wouldnt be but i was wrong as they have changed the resistance on the switch which means you now have to buy a new matching motor aswell at a total cost with fitting at around £400 :3sadwalk:...... Anyone else had problems with their suroof switch and more importantly is there any cheaper fix? Ive got to service the BM next month aswell so i guess i'll be selling the shirt off my back to pay for that...lol..

I gave up trying to do everything on the mine a while back, would cost a fortune to keep up. My microswitch, bumper, ARB's. top mount etc are all shot to *****..

Good luck with your woes ..

Er, get a second hand switch or mech, there are plenty of spoecialuist breakers! Many seat Leon parts are a 3 parts also.

If you go to dealers you will be raped, simple as.

Find a good trusted local garage or indy VW Audi specialist

i did think of that but the switches are prone to failure on the pre face lift S3 (was revised on post face lift) so i dont want to get a secondhand one and then have to replace it again at a later date and if im gonna get a new second switch and motor i may as well buy new parts for the little difference in cost. I already get all the work on the S3 is carried out with an Audi specialist as im not into getting butt raped by the stealerships....

To replace a switch takes about 2 minutes!
It will cost about £5 from a breaker. If it does nto work they will refund you! If it works, you are fixed for a fiver and 2 minutes time!

It can fail 80 times and you still be no worse off than £400 for a motor etc!

If it is ONLY the switch knackered (prone to it, you say) I think you are mad to even consider anything else but a new switch!
Criped for £399 I am sure you could find some electrical company to make you a custom switch out of gold that will never break!! LOL

I see what your saying but the last thing i want is the roof to fail again me and for it to be stuck open which is what has just happened to me, no good if its raining or parked in a dubious place...
Ive looked for a second hand switch but to no avail, if i could find one i'd give it a bash but if i buy a new switch i'll have to buy a new motor as they changed the resistance on the motor so at the end of the day i'd need to replace the motor anyway which is obviously the expensive part....

You do realise that you can wind the sunroof closed manually?

Under the cover is a little tool for the job. Leave it closed until you get time money to fix.
