Need to change glove box air bag question

Hi

My glove box has got damaged on my S3 and I need to change it. I have done a lot on cars in the past but not with air bag switches so sorry for silly question.
I want to avoid having to get Vagcom involved.
Do I need to disconnect batter negative before I uplug the airbag switch or just leave ignition off?
Will this avoid air bag error warning as I have seen on other posts.
All so looking at breakers for parts are all 8v a3/s3 the same part from colour and handle of course.

Remove battery negative else disconnecting the switch will generate an error.

Yes the glovebox handle is the same fitment for all 8V models with S3 and S-Line coming with the brushed aluminium finish plus convertible has a lockable version.
I have a guide on how to remove the glovebox handle here as I converted by Sportback to a locking version using my own key.
