Let's hope the 8V S3 proves to be a reliable car for everyone, including mine when I get it. My 8P A3 has been trouble-free for 8 years of ownership. Thermostat/coolant pump housing is a common problem.
haldex pump is the other issue if not serviced properly.

Another thing to think about is if the dsg gearbox has been serviced on time. Every 38k if I remember right.
dsg boxes are quite sensitive to not being serviced on time.

I had the thermostat/water pump go bad. As well as the hpfp.
