Radar detector installation

Hello, I want to put a radar detector on the left side of the mirror, what would be the easiest way to take the 12V to feed it?

I’d recommend watching some YouTube videos for something like a dash cam installation for the 8Y platform and that’ll likely give you some ideas for electrical tie ins.

And just as aside, I’m pretty sure most use laser now to hear that in mind also.

Hello, I want to put a radar detector on the left side of the mirror, what would be the easiest way to take the 12V to feed it?

So I just did this today and tapped into the rear view mirror.

Follow this video for the removal of the trim:


One you have the mirror removed look at the power connector to the mirror:

The Red wire with Green stripe is your 12V power (switched with ignition)
The Brown wire is your Ground

I purchased this wire tap kit from eBay for my Escort Radar detector: https://www.ebay.com/itm/172724946289

And inserted the wires into the back of the connector as shown below. Once I confirmed the connection was good and it powered my detector, I zip tied the wires in place so they could not pull out.

I then used the Youtube video to assemble the mirror and trim pieces back into place.

Done.
