Hi guys. Great forum. I have a 2009 s4 avant 3.0tfsi. Love this car but have always had problems with the dreaded dog gearbox. The problem I have is when I pull away rather sharply it will go from 1st to neutral and display the message gearbox fault cont tomdrive no reverse. It will eventually select 3rd and I can continue to drive albeit rather hesitantly until I can safely pull over and switch thencar off. Restart the engine and all is well again with nommess displayed. I have come to be used to this now and have learned to drive conservatively on pulling away and car can be fine but hey this is an s4. Not designed to be driven conservatively is it. Anyway as 0er put it down toothed usual mechatronic unit probkems ans therefore took it out and sent to ECU for diagnosis and after paying then500 odd quidmhadnit returned with supposedly clean bill off health. After refitting using all new oils bolts filters gaskets hooked for the best. Alas all to no avail. My next tho was must have been something I had done wrong so decided ti bite the bullet and take it to mackies gearbox specialists in Glasgow where they would diagnosis and repair for me. Argh. They couldn't find any fault codes what soever. Apart from the codes i gave them I had got using obd 11. They still managed to charge me 117 quid for the privilege and quoted 4300 quid to fix the car using the codes i gave them. SSOOOOnow what do I do. Toying with the idea off just buying a new mech unit from audi and firing that in to see if that cures the problems. Again will need to buy the oils and gaskets as before then again would this be component protected and give me issues. ???
Anyway guys open to all correspondence on this issue as surely I can't be alone with these crappy gearbox issues. All the goggle stories are well old.
Beginning to wish imhad just stuckmwith my 2006 b7 2.0 quattro
Thanks for taking the time guys and enjoying your vehicles no matter what you have

@andy2502, have you performed a DSG adaptation recently? I've had my mechatronic unit repaired (not replaced) by Audi and like you, noticed some hesitancy getting into gears and had to wait before setting off or getting into reverse even after the repair.

I bought the OBDeleven reader because I need to change my battery and thought I would see if I could use it to perform the adaption myself (used YouTube videos as guides) and I have to say, it's made a big difference following resetting the TCU. Worth doing if you haven't, especially since you already have the OBD reader.
