at that mileage I would look at service history. look for things like clutch/flywheel change, timing belt, gearbox service etc.

Hi thanks for the reply, she said nothing has been done, and it has 4 service stamps, so it's missing a few, she assures me the car is fine but really wanted to know if this engine suffers any faults. oil pump etc. or was that just the earlier models. i will obviously needs to check those other things you've mentioned too.

I thought it was the earlier 2.0 common rail diesels that had issues. Later cars I don’t believe suffered from the oil pump issues.
I’m sure someone on here can confirm.
at 100k+ I would budget clutch/flywheel and timing belt if neither has been done. £1k+ for clutch/flywheel and anything from £3-500 for timing belt.

Yes i thought the same thing after reading about the VW Passat 2.0 when i was looking for a car a while back i'm sure it was 12 plate but have read that this engine is mk3 B8 engine, not B7, it would be good to know 100% as i'm going to see the car either today or tomorrow, and just can't find this inofrormation anywhere, i have even messaged two VW specialists but had no reply from them, and i agree about the timing belt and clutch, the car is 8k she's dropped £300 so it maybe a bargain depending if i can find out about the engine and everything esle checks out, other cars going for a lot higher price.
