Placed deposit on a 2017 S3 yesterday, it is advertised as having "technology pack worth £1400" and has B&O and virtual cockpit and wireless charging phone box.
Oddly when I was fiddling with it I noticed the mmi rotary dial lacked joystick and touch functionality, and instead of the two silver buttons next to it there were smaller black ones.

This leads me to believe it DOES NOT have tech pack, but rather B&O, wireless charging and VC separately.

If this is the case, what functionality am I lacking? I like to play FLAC files off an SD card, and use my iPhone handsfree. I don't use the iPhone to play music. Is it going to suck to live without the proper tech pack mmi functionality?

It did have menus for Audi Connect and Audi Smartphone.

This is the car:

Thank you

tech pack included the vc and MMI high. don’t think you can have the vc without the MMI high unless it’s retrofitted. You can check the glovebox and the unit should have 2sdcard slots and SIM card slot.
could be just a broken controller as from your pic it all looks the same as mine.

Just looked at your pics again and your controller is not the same as mine and wrong controller for at least the facelift.

I spoke to Audi today who ran the plate through their database and they confirmed it has the "Technology Pack". Looking at that PDF, there's only one Tech Pack, which includes "MMI Navigation Plus with MMI Touch" which has the touch thing on the rotary knob and the whole knob functions as a joystick allowing you to select options left and right, up and down etc. Yet the rotary knob and surrounding buttons in that car are neither Touch nor have joystick capability. So either...Audi ****** up when they built the car, or someone retrofitted the inferior joystick into it...why would anyone do that? I noticed an option for surround sound in the B&O settings too which is only available with Tech Pack too.

I will probably query this with Audi when I take ownership of the car. Going to get the £700 offer on currently - two years of audi warranty, 2 mot's, and 2 services, and 2 years of roadside assist for £700.

Odd.

Odd.

previous owner might have broke the original and fitted the wrong one cause it’s cheaper.
what colour is the buttons when they light up?

as for the all in one warranty/service it’s a bargain. Mine paid for itself with one claim for leaking waterpump/thermostat.

Honestly I didn't see the buttons light up at all, despite the car being inside and the auto headlights turning on.

It should look like this and I have not found any FL S3's matching mine, only normal A3's.

That doesn’t look right either. The volume knob is lighting up red so says to me a pre facelift
here’s mine.

Yeah yours is the one that should be in the car. Was in my nano s3 too. I don't see audi doing it at build so it's very likely someone has swapped in the wrong one. That's annoying.

Don’t think they are cheap either probably why the previous owner put a cheap one in.
Doesn’t take much to break these things so can understand. Broke my one in the a6 with split coffee

But would you expect to buy a car with advertised Tech Pack that should have MMI Touch etc only to find it has a pre facelift rotary dial and buttons that don't match the lighting for the rest of the car?

I mean...is it a fair compromise?

Is it an Audi dealer?
I would get them to put it right.

Nope, well established specialist dealer not related to Audi.

Looks like its been a swap out at some point, The FL ones are around £100 to purchase on eBay and takes ten minutes to swap over.

You require the one ending in BJ, which will include Touch control.

See what works out best for you - getting a better deal because of it, or asking them to replace the panel with the correct one. You'll notice the one thats fitted dosent have the joystick feature where it clicks left and right and up and down.

Dealers often have no idea about the cars they are selling! but that works to an 'in the know' buyer advantage, I just bought a newish car fitted with some expensive options a lot cheaper than would be the norm as the dealer didn't know they where there.

Well I went back...after taking a pic of it with the lights on and seeing it light up red instead of white, and some persuading and showing them pfl vs fl cars they figured out what I meant.. it has a PRE FL part with the same model number as the FL "BJ" part according to them. They also told me the rotary dials NEVER break (which I know to be untrue). They said they would fix it...so we shall see. I use MMI Touch all the time to enter post codes.

I guess this is the hassle of not buying from audi directly but there's no choice in the market right now for the right spec / colour even if I had an unlimited budget!

They don' t have the same part number, they have different letters at the end - if it looks like it is on your unit, they have simply reused the back cover from the original onto the PFL one, this piece has the part number sticker on it.

Hopefully you'll get it sorted, its only around £100 for a BJ part off eBay, but they can be a difficult to find at times.

I believe it requires this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/144699407765 £155, but that one is scratched to bits. And if you search that model code, it shows you the PFL ones without joystick / mmi touch and the 4 black buttons which is what the car had, does this mean the £155 one is NOT a

Sorry the forum software doesn't like the text formatting.

It's all very confusing.

Another example this one https://www.genuineaudiparts.com/oem-parts/audi-controller-8v0919614bj
See under "years" it's 2016 to 2019 which is the correct one. But the picture is not the correct one...the pic shows the 2013-2017 one (which should actually be 2013-2016 ie PFL).

The eBay link is the correct one.

Don't get to involved with part numbers, you want a unit with the two silver buttons, and ending in BJ for Touch, BE without and BK with Touch and Button Start.

The touch pad is bigger on the ones with touch, you can see it by comparing it to a BE unit, the BJ one overhangs over the buttons etc.

As I said, they are tricky to find sometimes as the BE unit is much more common.
