Audi hold assist issue

Hey guys. Just looking for a bit of support on this issue.
my auto hold assist has recently stopped working. I have the switch next to the e brake switch and when I press it I get a display reading
Audi hold assist not available.
many ideas? Someone mentioned a new parking brake control module but if that was faulty surely my e brake wouldn’t work at all? Which it still does. It Just does not automatically release when I pull away.
any help appreciated.

I’m going to borrow my mates reader tonight and see what comes up. Failing that I’ll get it plugged up to vag com

If I recall, you can only activate it when the engine is running, seatbelt on, in park (assuming DSG) and footbrake pressed. Does that work?

Yes. It used to work and randomly stopped. No other issue or faults associated with it that I could link it to.
