I’ve just changed the timing belt on my 1.8T Audi TT MK1. I got the engine to TDC, marked the belt and refitted in reverse.
When rotating the crank by hand, both TDC lines match after two rotations of the engine so all good there, but the crank sounds squeaky/creaky when rotating by hand. It’s no harder to turn than before, just doesn’t sound right to me. Flywheel crank and cam are all at TDC after two full turns, so must be right yeah?

I’m such a Wally… as I was just test fitting the lower timing cover to align marks I hadn’t put the 10mm bolts on the cover all the way in. The squeaky noise was the back of the crank pulley against the 10mm bolts.
A massive relief as it now turns nicely with no noise.
