Yeah very easy to punch yourself in the face when it finally lets go
Yes it is very stiff. Use an old cloth to protect it and use a pair of large pliers to grip it. FYI there are nicer ones that you can refit. The facelift 8P ones are the same as the TT MK2, and the facelift TT has gloss black and alu ones. I fitted this to my prefacelift TT

noPull straight out. It’s on a square clip, there’s a fair chance part of the clip will break. Doesn’t really make a difference as it’s a tight fit anyway
noMight be able to take the backing and internals off to get to the shaft. I might have an old one in the loft I can photograph for you to see the clips
noVery easy indeed! Worth the fat lip though once you change it to a nice chrome one!

yesPush the dial in then twist to the right. This will retract some little locking teeth and the whole unit should pull out. Ignore my post sorry - being a dikc and can’t delete - sorry!
What are you talking about? In his post he is clearly asking how to remove the knob from the main unit. He already has the unit removed from the car...we all like some help these days but if you dont know then just move on. You can really damage parts by removing them if you are not sure how to do it. German engineers are pretty damn good with install and removal. I'd hate to see the panel damaged by blunt force trauma to the switch

HELP!! After huge efforts and unfortunately some scratches I managed to fit the chrome switch into my prefl panel. As you see in the first pic is the removal of the prefl switch which went smoothly, instead the chrome one had to break in one piece, so it made things more difficult. Even so, in the next two pics you can see the position front and back at the same time. I pushed the middle plastic both clockwise and counter-clockwise but when it was inside the red plastic, it wouldnt move at all! What am I missing here? Please help, my brain is starting to melt! Couldnt expect this mod to be such a PITA!! Thanks in advance!!
I'm not sure I follow what the problem is. Which part is broken? The white piece the knob clips on to? If so, can you use the non-broken one as I think they are all the same
