Hello.
I hope your all well and safe.

I bought an Audi A3 with 140k on the clock 3 weeks ago.
Sat for a while.
Runs good.

Yesterday on breaking at a junction it just stopped.
I towed it to a safe place and a friend looked at the engine and said the cam belt is loose. Not Broke. He said the tensioner was it bolted tight and has come loose.

Before I put it into the garage I want to ask if anyone has a rough price for tightening the cam belt.

I understand that this may of lead to valves being damaged and maybe a write off . But fingers crossed a tightened belt and it will be ok.

Any help will be gratefully received.

Respect and regards

Richy

very unlikely you havent got bent valves imo.

if the belt was loose enough for it to jump a tooth or two, the ecu would compensate, ****** the timing, adjust fuel etc.

for it to completely stop, while driving, thats valves hitting pistons.
price for tightening and adjusting the timing, i would say around 100. new cambelt fitted with tensioner, around 300. replace head/valves, new timing belt ££££

sure your friend didnt mean the auxillary/serpentine belt, and that its something simple like your battery died?
