3.0 TDI Lazy Gearbox / Turbo lag issues - Software update?

I had the 2 recalls carried out yesterday; Drive Electronics 23CK and MMI 91X4. I did a couple of hours of mixed driving in the car today and can confirm there is significant improvement, as reported above by others. The gear changing is so much better and the car simply feels like it is now in the correct gear for all situations. It appears to have completely cured the "laziness" which I described when I began this thread. Well done to my local Audi dealer for sorting it without fuss.

Hi. Wanted to ask where I could get my gearbox update? I have a7 bitdi 2015. I love my car but the gearbox makes me to not like the car sometimes. I got the same issue as you on roundabouts gear change delay, or later torque engagement. Sometimes when I shift manually the car stays for long in manually mode. To get out from it I need to push stick down ones and it goes back to drive. I always drive in dynamic mode. The car has done 66k miles. Where I could get this updated too. P.s the throttle box doesn't help and this is not throttle problem.. I live in Ipswich, Suffolk.
Thanks for any suggestions.

This forum is for the C8 platform cars, your A7 is a C7 platform. As such they are different cars, in particular because the C8 has the Mild Hybrid drive train and these recalls are being done under warranty. If you are having gearbox issues you should either speak to an Audi dealer or find a ZF gearbox specialist in your locality

For those that have had the software update, apart from the improved driveability, have you noticed anything else? For example I used to be able to force engine start during start stop by manually selecting with the steering wheel paddles; after the software upgrade, mine doesn't seem to do this anymore. Anyone experienced similar?

Hi everyone, I collected my new 50 TDI Allroad on Saturday - and was worried about the lag from reading this thread. The dealer checked and the car is fully up to date on software - and I have to say it is anything but sluggish, in all drive select modes. Im extremely pleased with it!

Hi guys, new on here but know all about the lag issue. Just had it eradicated by MRC tuning (if you know you know) and got to say having mapped many of my performance Audis I knew they would do the business on my wifes 2020 q7 50tdi. The takeoff lag is compeltely gone and the car is transformed +80ps and +200nm even got 8mpg average better on way home at a faster pace. Not my usual experience of mpg and remaps. Because they also remapped the gearbox as well as engine it really is seamless and the torque feels perfectly in sync with the gearbox much better than OE not having to drop gears when you give it a bootful but using the torque much more effectively instead. I know some wont like the idea of a tuner because of warranty but ive never had any issues with them. Theres a reason they win tuner of the year every year.

Great to hear that. Does this invalidate the Audi manufacturing warranty ? and also how did it cost?

Pre Brexit it used to be EU law that remapping would only invalidate warranty if the failure in question can be attributed to the remap. And the burden of proof is on the manufacturer. However post Brexit im not sure what it will mean.
In the past on my RS6s and R8s as ive owned from new my dealer never had issues covering and warranty work even when they plugged a computer uploaded to audi uk and could see id had them remapped. It was almost a given if you bought a car like an RS6 you would unleash its full potential. That said maybe I was lucky they turned a blind eye. The 50 TDI isnt a highly strung engine so remapping isnt an issue imho providing its done well by a reputable tuner. The Q7 now drives like a dream. MRC are the best in the UK for Audi. Ive never had problems with anything theyve done. In terms of Price the engine map is £650+£300 for gearbox map which is essential with this tune. Its worth it imo. You get what you pay for over a pedal box or generic file loaded to your car
