Hi ladies and gents!

As the title states. What is the procedure for replacing a transmission tunnel? I have my own ideas, but it doesn’t hurt to get different opinions. I am looking to replace the tunnel in a B7 Avant.

Many thanks in advance.

I think you'll find it's not a everyday retro fit and not something many have really performed, as such you may have to just wing it , good luck though.

Isn’t the Transmission tunnel part of the monocoque?

And that means either “clearance” it with a hammer or cut and weld it

It’s a separate section.

You could do with some manufacturers repair methods, having said that, transmission tunnels are something we generally have to change in my line of work. If it was me, strip the whole car to expose all joins and welds and use a little comman sense to figure out the best way to make the swap. Then reinstall the new one as the original came out where possible.

Yes, that’s my intention, Rob. The interior will be completely stripped around the tunnel.

Inside:

Leading centre console.
Trailing centre console.
Wiring harness.
Airbag control module.
Parking brake assembly and cables.
Gear shift lever assembly and rods.

Underside:

Exhaust system.
Underseal.
