So I have a 2013 8v 150PS 2.0 TDI and basically I am looking at some of the mods you can do to get the most out of this engine, the reason I ask is that I'm going to plan out some of the potential mods I can do ready for next year when I'm on a new policy as I am currently on box insurance thanks to my age and student level budget. I'm pretty happy with the cars performance as it is which is why I'm not too desperate for upgrades currently.

I've already done a few basics such as take out the snow-guard, plonk in a new air filter and plan out the intake mod. My planned mods so far only consists of an ECU remap which really do push up the numbers in terms of BHP. I'm not the most mechanically minded person as IT is more my comfort zone however if anyone has any good suggestions I'll be sure to give them a look.

I'm also curious about others experience with the 2.0 TDI engine I'd also love to know what kind of numbers you are pushing, both bhp and torque. Cheers.

MRC in Banbury told me they can get 195 Bhp on a stage 1 map for my 2.0 TDI. Can't remember the quoted torque.

What intake mod you planning ?

I've been considering upgrading the diverter valve. Also the turbo inlet elbow but struggling to find one.

I have a 1.6 TDI and would like to give it a bit of a bump in performance if possible. In the same situation as you though - I'm really limited to mods due to young drivers insurance.

I'm wondering if one of DTUK's tuning kits would be worth it on these cars?

Without a doubt, I'm sure there website gives performance gain examples.

I've seen anywhere from 140-160bhp on 116PS 1.6 TDI after tuning box is in.

What would worry me is that it could cause TD4 flag and void the warranty.

Just took a look......

CRD T+ £389

A3 1.6 TDI 115 PS 250nm torque

with the box

155 PS , 330nm torqye

A3 2.0 TDI 150 PS 320nm torque

With the box

200PS , 460nm torque.

Obviously figures vary depending on engine variant but these are impressive figures, remember it's the torque figures that will really make the difference.

200 PS? That's crazy

As I said its the torque rating that makes the difference. Smother power delivery and more torque / pull through all the gears. Yes the Bhp top end is much improved but the torque is where it's at ...... Power delivery.

Be very careful with remaps for the new MOT - the new emissions check will catch anything that isn't at OEM levels of cleanliness. Visible smoke is insta fail.

I didn't think a remap would effect that kind of thing, since I'll still have the DPF.

With a tuning box you won't have this problem.

These are the engine mods I want to do:
Darkside Developments Induction Kit:
https://www.darksidedevelopments.co...air-filter-for-mk7-tdi-platform-vehicles.html

Garrett Turbo:
https://www.darksidedevelopments.co...mon-rail-165-175hp-garrett-turbo-upgrade.html

DTUK Tuning Box:
https://www.diesel-performance.co.u...m-2013-onwards/1-6-tdi-115ps85kw-1598-ccm-14/

All of which will potentially take my 1.6 up to 220hp on the high end.

Would love to do the turbo but changing that would mean changing the clutch, intercooler and maybe some other things so I don't how smart that would be whilst still having the car on PCP.

Hope these give you some ideas.

Due to the new MOTs, any black smoke is a failure. Black smoke is because of excess fuel which can be caused by a few factors. Remapping your ECU may tell it to spray as much as fuel as possible and to try and eek out as much power, but it may end up not being completely burnt or there may not be enough air in the cylinder due to a less-than-adequate turbo. A DPF is just a filter along your exhaust that traps any heavy soot particles

I wouldn't modify while on PCP, personally

They're some nice mods, out of curiosity, why a 1.6 turbo?

I phoned up the dealership and they said that so long as it's reversible I can do it and if it's anything to do with the engine then I have to contact Audi directly for approval.

Why did I buy a 1.6 turbo? In hindsight, I kind of wish I got a 2.0 diesel but it would've been quite a bit more on insurance, there weren't a wide range of good options, I didn't have much time due to problems with my previous car and the 1.6 I got is the Ultra edition so saves me that bit more on the 65 miles I do to work and back.

Someone's getting confused with remapping and a tuning box , the later is the over fueling , ecu mpg fooling .

I'm not getting confused by the two at all. A tuning box tricks the ECU that it's not sending the correct valued amount of fuel, by relaying a lower voltage that's being sent tricking the ECU in to sending a higher voltage and thus more fuel, a remap changes the actual values inside ECU.

Oh, my bad I thought you had a 2.0 and planned on putting the 1.6 turbo in.

Saves me a bucket load on fuel compared to my old car but I just want that extra bit of oomph to impress the ladies :(

I feel your pain brother <3

Most ladies couldn't give a toss about 40 more HP, my girlfriend has no clue :icon thumright:

I'm stuck with 1.6 also unfortunately. The biggest gripe I have with it is the single exhaust tip. I would love to convert it to USA 2.0T look with single tip on each side.

That does look good to be fair.
If you're interested in doing it, these are some stuff that I've found:
Remus Quad Exhaust:

I'd love to have at least dual exhaust tips, but over £1,300 for those quad exhaust tips.. Damn

Yep, a lot of money for what it is!
How would it sound on a diesel though? For me personally a diesel should be more discreet.
I'm not sure, hoping Pedro can give us a bit of an insight
