LazinessWhat's wrong with the flick of the steering stalk mate?
Missing HBA so interested in a retrofit.
is this an easy retrofit? Ie llug new Moore or or sensor in and little to no wiring and just needs coding
Cheers
Do you have lane assist? If yes then it can be easily coded. Can be the tens on/enabled just via coding, no hardware required. It was done for me my @DJAlix but you can if you have VCDS or similar

Lane assist was added too via coding but clearly for this need the pre-sense basic camera which my 2018 Q5 has.
Then change your rear view mirror with a version that support high beam assistNo lane assist or camera. Just light sensor for auto headlight.
I wouldn’t think so. Too much other stuff needed. Can you activate lane assist if you have HBA?
Thought so. I assume LA includes the hardware for HBA, but not the other way around.I wouldn’t think so. Too much other stuff needed.

That's interesting to know. I don't think I have pre sense, but LA isn't something I really care about anyway.I had both activated without having either, but as said 2018 car with pre sense and clearly hardware in place already. My understanding and I may be wrong was that if you had pre sense basic you could activate LA and HBA

What car do you have? That's interesting to know. I don't think I have pre sense, but LA isn't something I really care about anyway.
Coding and wiring neededThat was my question. Is it just a case of swapping the mirror? No extra wiring? Coding?

Do you have a front camera on your windshield?2014 8V with pretty much every option
Part of the mirror assembly? I think so. Looks like a dark square.Do you have a front camera on your windshield?

Can you post a pic?Part of the mirror assembly? I think so. Looks like a dark square.
Just got back from a car wash and tried to get a picture but they've waxed it, should've thought about that beforehand. Can you post a pic?

Its garbage anyawy ....Can you activate lane assist if you have HBA?
Matrix lights on mine are amazing, don't seem to dazzle anyone. You can see a dark shadow moving with the car(s) ahead, amazing tech.I previously had the high beam assist thing with Ford and Honda cars, but found in both cases it was not quick enough to react when I would have flicked it off myself....particularly when approaching cars from behind so I always turned it off.
Maybe the system works better with Audi though.
The matrix system looks like the ultimate in this type of technology from what I've read.
Yep.....and for me it falls into the category of would really appreciate having it but not so keen to pay the price to get it.Matrix lights on mine are amazing, don't seem to dazzle anyone. You can see a dark shadow moving with the car(s) ahead, amazing tech.
My car came with a steering wheel. Isn't a steering wheel standard across the range? Its garbage anyawy ....
If it was 'smart' and could keep you in the middle of a lane, thats good. But it waits till you are at the edge on the line and shunts you back in.
Yup and that's exactly what I use. But if I had a car which would keep me safely in lane I would use it on long motorway journeys quite happily. My car came with a steering wheel. Isn't a steering wheel standard across the range?

It was tongue in cheek, but I couldn't find a tongue in cheek smiley.Yup and that's exactly what I use. But if I had a car which would keep me safely in lane I would use it on long motorway journeys quite happily.

I need to check my setting as I can't think what the sensitivity is on tbh, but I'm going to guess its still not the same kind of technology as like you would get in a Tesla. I suppose though its not meant for that, its more to prevent you falling asleep and drifting into the next lane. Not for the car to drive itself...need to make sure you indiciate when changing lanes (as you should anyway..) as otherwise you will get some resistance when changing.Well if it is rubbish, even more pleased I didn’t pay for it as an option. Have only used a few times on longer motorway journeys, but of a gimmick, wife hates it, but you can set sensitivity as others have said
Here comes a potentially controversial comment, but I will say it anyway.need to make sure you indiciate when changing lanes (as you should anyway..) as otherwise you will get some resistance when changing.
To be honest I only put that comment in there about indicating before someone else said it hahaHere comes a potentially controversial comment, but I will say it anyway.
There is no need to habitually indicate when carrying out any manoeuvre in a vehicle. For example an empty motorway with clear views ahead and behind as far as you can see, would you indicate to change lanes(whatever the reason was for doing so)? Now some people will say yes because they do so out of habit and will state that it is a good habit, while others will say they treat every manoeuvre individually and look around to see if another road user or pedestrian could potentially benefit from the information an indication would provide, so if the answer is yes then indicate, but if it is no then there is no need to indicate.
Advanced driving will teach the second method.
I've had the lane keeping aid in 2 cars but having tried it I decided it was not for me because it was forcing me to indicate when I didn't feel it was always necessary to do so.
It does have its place though.....and I would still recommend it for long motorway journeys at night for example.
Sorry I am not meaning to be argumentative, just wanted to say this because it is something I have always felt strongly about.
Completely understand this.....when writing a post I often find myself trying to second guess what somebody else could rightly or wrongly pick up on.To be honest I only put that comment in there about indicating before someone else said it haha
