Locking wheel nut key/removal. new key help?

I bought my A4 a week ago now, the front tyres don't have any locking wheel nuts on just normal bolts but the back 2 have them on, the garage I bought the car from put the locking wheel nut key in the boot.. but it doesn't fit on the bolts, they seem to have a spinning ring around the locking nut? is this standard for Audi? How do I remove this or would the genuine key be able to remove the spinning ring and the bolt together?

How do I find and purchase the correct key so I am able to remove the locking nuts? Thanks

First of all nice alloys! Is it a special edition car or just wheels? Locking wheel nuts are extremely difficult to remove without destroying the wheel. Specialist kits are available to remove locking nuts but they are 100% successful everytime. I would try the dealer as they could have a master set of locking nut keys (there could be quite a few different ones) and could point you in the right direction.

I'm not too sure, it's an Audi A4 TFSI Quattro S Line. Is there any way I can check if it is a special edition car?

If they are OEM locks delivered with the car, then the dealer should be able to get the key reference using your VIN code.

If they are aftermarket, dealer won’t be able to help.

Most tire places can remove them, but will destroy the bolt in the process (not the wheel) so maybe you should buy a replacement set of locking wheel bolts from the dealers, then pop round your nearest tire shop and ask if they can remove for you.

That's great thank you, will pick up a new set of locking wheel bolts tomorrow and pop to the tyre shop around the corner from me to get the other 2 taken off. Heading on the motorway in a few weeks and don't fancy not having a locking nut key that fits, just in case!!

There is a company that can send you a new key for around £35 You just have to send them a photo. Do a Google search I used them and the key worked perfectly. Your lock nut was same as mine

IF you decide to buy new locking wheel nuts and a key from Audi be warned...

My local tyre fitter managed to snap my key and damage the wheel nut, he removed the wheel nut with the kit he had (killing said wheel nut)

Told me to go buy a new wheel nut and key from Audi and the tyre fitting company would reimburse me

Audi charged me £50 for one wheel nut and key!!!!!

Thank god i didn't need all four and the tyre fitting company were paying for the one they broke

This will happen with any nut if air tools are used to install them (not sure that was the case with yours).
I always install mine by hand, and I remove them before visiting the tire shop.

Air tools only damage locking wheel nuts if the person behind the gun doesn't know what their doing. I always use my impact gun (im a panel beater and mechanic) to remove and refit locking wheel nuts and have never damaged one yet. Softly softly catchy monkey! Not all tire fitters have these kits either so if not i would have thought Audi could help you out for a small fortune.

I think they’re made by McGard. Send them a pic and confirm vehicle type model age etc and they’ll tell you the locking code and then you can buy the correct key along with a new set of lock bolts. You can use the key to remove the old lock bolts and replace with the new lock bolts

Thanks for everyone's reply. I was passing my local Audi dealer so popped in to ask them for their advice, a lovely man in Parts removed the bolts free of charge for me, I bought a new set to replace, all sorted now.
