Hi

So my little 1.8t AUM has been losing coolant for a while now, I've finally had it block tested, and sure enough, there are exhaust fumes present in the coolant system. So needless to say it's going to need a replacement head gasket.

Whilst the head is off, are there any other parts you can recommend changing?

So far I have a list of:
head gasket kit
head bolts
timing belt kit
water pump
thermostat

Thanks in Advance!

Neil.

exhaust to downpipe to a 3inch? the head gasket kit will include a cam cover gasket and valve seats.

you will maybe need some liquid gasket too.

if you have the ability change the valve seats.

clean the inlet manifold,

clean the exhaust manifold and change the gasket, studs and nordlock nuts.

find a new coolant flange incase it gets broken with all the shinanigans.

If you are spending out properly then get new engine mount bolts, they are supposed to be "use once stretch bolts" and can snap when trying to torque up op old already stretched bolts.

you will need a special tool to remove the head bolts and probably and e14/e16 manifold to turbo bolts.

you can clean the hot side of your turbo at the same time.

of course a coolant flush at the same time

the head is much heavier than you think it's going to be.

or just chuck in some head repair fluid for the summer? (follow the instructions carefully) - if doing this buy the £30 stuff not the cheap stuff.
