Please help, I have a 2003 3.0 petrol Audi convertible, it drives well and runs smoothly except on occasion the amber warning triangle lights up on the dash and the engine cuts out completely. If I then disconnect the battery and re start it can run fine for weeks and then suddenly do it again.

I have had several companies look at it including John Bowls and other such specialist, I have had the Air mass meter changed, fuel pump and some wiring checked and spent several hundred pounds trying to resolve the issue. As you can appreciate the car is not worth a lot and I don't really want to throw more good money after bad.

Please help!!

Try the crank angle sensor, a common failure component.
When it happens again turn the engine over while watching the Rev counter, if the needle doesn’t move that confirms the crank angle sensor.
Generic part is around £15 with two year warranty, genuine part is around £50 with two year warranty.

Thank you for your email, I will certainly see if that happens the next time it cuts out. The trouble I have is that I can start it afterwards it just then keeps stalling. When I disconnect and re connect the battery it is all okay again.
