That maybe so, but don't forget Audi's new R10 endurance racers use diesel engines. Perfect marketing opportunity, and the V12 would broaden the R8's appeal.

at 60k or whatever it is the buyer wont give two toss's whether its relatively economical or not.

a v12 tdi is hardly going to be economical, with all that torque you'd think it will struggle on the track but audi proved it can with the endurance racer. I am waiting for a top gear review

Sportscars are supposed to sound loud and exciting...not the low thrum of a diesel.

I have nothing against diesels...just don't see the point in a car of this type.
