S3 Resonator Delete

Ok, thanks guys I'll have a look at some point soon. To be honest, I'm not sure it's actually drone, it's just quite loud on 'throttle'... on the motorway in a high gear, it's pretty quiet, so I think it's probably how it should be, just wasn't expecting it to be quite so damn loud. I think it's because the valves are set to open permanently...

Valves make a massive difference

So I've just been to Torqueflow Exhausts and had this done to my FL S3 saloon and here's my thoughts:

As others have said, this is what the car should come like as stock. The burbles on start up are so much more pronounced and when you need power, the noise is exactly as it should be. When you're cruising it's quiet and non-offensive unlike a new exhaust system would be.

I've done about 30 miles since having it done this afternoon (a mix of roads) and there's no drone at all. I think this is attributable to the 7 speed s tronic box and the fact my valves function as stock.

Personally, I won't be getting my valves coded open as that would be too much noise too often for what I'm after. Putting it in sport Once in a while will then be a nice alternative (I'm a sucker for tunnels!)

All in all, if you're on the fence like I was- take the plunge and do it.

Yep. I want to do so too! Until the next post talks about too loud and too much drone .

Getting mine done next week.
How has everyone explained this to their insurer?

Having mine done today, it's insured with Admiral as a sports exhaust system. Perhaps it will become one at some point!

Hi guys,

Just out of curiosity, does this affect the warranty at all? I assume it will void the warranty on the exhaust system which is to be expected, but I assume the rest of the car remains ok? After all, the de-res is an OEM option in some parts of the world.

Precisely this- the exhaust warranty will likely be voided (arguably from the cat back only) however the rest of the car will be fine.

Why Audi don't make this an OEM action in the UK is beyond me- would be a nice little earner for them clearly given the amount of us who have had it done!

Had mine fitted this morning.
As every else says, this is how the car should sound from stock.
It's much deeper/throatier, sounds great at 3k RPM.

It is an OEM aftermarket upgrade in the USA but I think they have an extra cat or something over there so from stock it's much quieter than Europe's.

Yes and with axa its free iv been void after an accident 13 years ago and had a scare since so now i declair everything

How much are people paying to get it done? I've seen the middle pipe on eBay for £50 so wondering is it cheaper to buy that and get someone to fit it?

I got one of the £50 pipes off eBay (Zaustworks or something) then another £50 for fitting.

Got it done for £90 at EMP performance in st Albans. Great job, did it in half hour. What a difference it makes! It's much louder but it does drone at certain revs. I think this is because I have my flaps coded open though. I need to shut them!

Same for me...

I'm having a problem shutting my valves with Carista beta - as in it doesn't work. The drone is too much for me at motorway speeds! Anyone know how to shut them again?

There isn’t any drone at motorway speeds.......

Unless your motorway speeds are in excess of 1000mph when the revs probably sit at 3000rpm.

I've got PFL, 80mph is about 3k rpm

It seems to work after the car has been left for a while. Confirmed by cleaning my exhaust. Only 2 dirty pipes now

I tend to drive with the window open and it's OK but with the windows closed with slight power down about 3k I do get some drone.

On the flat sat at 3k just keeping speed it's fine

Not really what I wanted to hear as I’ve had the BCS powervalve res delete earmarked for the new year purely because I don’t want any drone! Is yours a manual or auto?

Closing the valves does really change it from too loud to just right in my opinion. If it's too loud then you'll have to go the resonated backbox option

Auto... I'm sure it's because the valves are open permanently. I'll report back after the 17th when @DJAlix is closing them for me.

I've had my pipe sitting to go on, almost sold it as was put off but heard one the other day and WOW! what was i waiting for.....
How much should i be paying to get this fitted at a garage? must be a 20min job, no?

I paid £70 to have a straight pipe fabricated and fitted (with sleeves, not weld).

4 months on and still loving it. Does drone when slow accelerating on mway between 2.5-3.5k revs - doesn't bother me too much.

Had mine done last week, but I'm having it put back to standard again. There's a lot of intrusive drone at part throttle (worse in higher gears) and it's very loud on cold start. Too much for me (strange, as I came from a Focus ST mk2 which was also deresonated and then 3inch Scorpion systemed!) I may look at a Milltek resonated system in the future though as I've heard it's slightly louder than standard...

Really that bad? do you have the flaps open, as i currently do and thinking will need to close them again if i get my res delete thrown on this week.

must be looking at max £20 to get a pre bought pipe fitted then, will have to phone around.

I've tried it on Auto and Comfort but still to much for me. The volume inside is great with the exception of the drone and it sounds awesome on WOT, but I'm getting a bit picky in my old age and I don't want to pee off the neighbours! Shame you can't try before you buy... still, it has got me thinking about an RS3.

Is yours a standard straight pipe or the BCS pipe with the added resonator pipe?

Straight pipe with slip clamps either end..... will be fitted this week so will report back.

I'm wondering if a smaller resonator instead of a straight pipe will make a difference in volume but not be as intrusive. Going to Powerflow on Saturday to investigate...

I'm waiting for someone to come out with a cheaper option than the BCS route, and then I'm in! Hopefully black Friday or Christmas will bring a big discount!
