ELM327 OBD2 code reader, full-time plug-in??

About to receive a Bluetooth code reader this coming week and I wanna know if it be left plugged into my OBD port all the time, or is the port permanently powered (like my 12v socket) and likely to drain the battery?

ah ok, it can live in the glovebox when its not being used then! ta

It will certainly drain your battery if left in there though when powered off of a constant 12v. Done it a few times (****) just about enough juice to crank over the engine.

Just tap into the can bus and give it 12v ignition and ground and call it a day. There is no need to keep it on all the time
