[FONT=Calibri, sans-serif]I have 2006 Audi A3 2.0tfsi sline which has some engine damage ( to what extent i dont know) all i know is that the Cam chain cover has cracked causing an oil leak on the motorway and the engine to stop running.

A few weeks before a mechanic was working on it as there was an issue with the cam chain tensioner as he said the glider had broke. I left the car with him as he said he would order the part. the part took a month to come and he took another month to fit it.

When i collected the car it was lacking power at low revs so i gave it him back and he said the timing was out and he would re-time it. again takes another month for him to do the work by which time im rather P**d off but the car was running smoother but still lacking power. 2 weeks after was when the engine failed.

I can see a tear in the cam cover but i cannot see inside to see the damage.

the advice im looking for is

1. is it worth me dropping a new engine in and selling it OR
2. should i sell it as a non runner as it is?

Car had covered 127k, no faults, flew through mot, no engine lights etc. interior is almost perfect, full leather etc.

[FONT=Calibri, sans-serif]if there is anybody in the Manchester area willing to give advice, maybe come diagnose the issue or even recommend somebody who can undertake putting a new engine in?

the car is just sat doing nothing on the driveway so its either a quick fix or a quick sell as it needs to go.

any advice / service will be appreciated

are you asking from a financial point of view or a time and effort point of view? given the condition of the ret of the car, either option would be beneficial I think, so it depends on the quality of the new engine and who fits it really

My first choice would be to get a new engine put in it and get it running ready to sell. Are there any recommended engine specialists on the forum who could do this?

I would remove your email before the spam robots pick it up too.

Id be gfoing back to speak to the garage that worked on it, something doesnt sit right in all of this

Ok firstly, I would suggest fitting a reconditioned engine and not a new one for about 1k fitted, secondly, wtf **** was this mechanic doing with your car for 3 months???
Take him to small claims court, only £60

I am looking at taking him to the small claims court but in the mean time im happy to get a new engine in then try and claim that back. the mechanic denies its his fault and wont come out to see the damage and to be honest its quite clear he didnt have a clue what he was doing hence why he had it almost 3 months.

If i could get away paying £1000 to have an engine fitted id be a happy man.

I would be going to Awesome GTI, South of Manchester. Likely to cost quite a bit more than a thousand though but they will find you an engine and do the job properly.

So your saying volkswagon spares are no good at fitting engines @£1500???

Id be tempted to get the car inspected before you do anything, get it in a report what has caused the failure, if you dont said garage could claim you didnt give them a chance to sort the issue and walk away scott free

I didn't look at your link. If you recommend them, then all well and good. Only had experience of Awesome's work myself.
Didnt recomend them, it was just a case of have a look about and find someone near to where he is as towing a car a long way may be an issue or buy an exchange unit and have it fitted by someone he trusts, like a local indy specialist.

Thats the idea i have tried to contact a few mobile mechanics to come and diagnose what caused the problem but im getting no responses. Its almost as if nobody wants to touch it!

I have numerous texts off the mechanic telling him whats wrong but he ignores them.

Id prefer to have somebody come look at it, diagnose what went wrong, then either fix or replace the engine and i will pursue the matter with the smalls claims court later. id rather pay £1500 to get a new engine in it and then sell it for £3000 so at least im getting some return on it as at the moment its just sat doing nothing
