I have seen a thread like this some time ago, concerning gear crunching when going into 3rd.

It only happens when changing up a gear (from 2nd to 3rd) but only when I have gone to about 4000 rpm in second then changed.

The ironic thing is that if I am breaking in 4th and im at 4000 rpm and change down to 3rd to slow the engine down it doesn’t happen.

Being that its gears it sounds expensive but I do want it to go away.......can anyone help?

Cheers

Tbh, I thinks its a kind of feature of the 6-speed box. Most of the 6-speed TTs or S3's i've driven have been notchy, or a little crunchy.

some have tried using different gearbox oil, and had smoother results.

If its really bad, it could need adjusting, or at worst a synchromesh replacing.

I was hoping that it wouldn’t need the synchrose changing, but even if they need adjusting I would assume they would have to drop the gear box?

I suppose this would be where my money disappears rather than fixing the problem lol!
