hello all,

so my car has got MANY issues at the moment and im slowley but surely trying to rectifiy these as and when funds are available.

one thing that is really bugging/worrying me is a noise i get under acceleration, when getting to the top of the rev range it makes a weird noise and its difficult to describe, its like a rattling whining/humming noise.

now im guessing because of the luck that i have had with the car that it is the turbo thats on its way out.

anyone else ever had anything like this or any advice of what else it could be(living in hope as i know it will most likely be the turbo).

Thanks
Darren

I feel your pain mate
Best is to find a good local indie/specialist to help sort issues out for you that you can't do yourself
I just want mine to run right too

seriously mate, the list of what that has been done and what still needs to be done is ridiculous,

Work carried out on the car so far:
-clutch switch replaced
-PCV changed replaced
-Diverter valve replaced
-oil pick up replaced with updated part
-balance shaft sprocket updated
-timing belt, water pump and tensioner changed
-Engine oil and filter changed

Ongoing issues with the car:
-erratic revving, more so when the car has warmed up, the revs increase when sat in traffic and the seem to hang when changing down gears.
-car doesn’t seem very quick
-strange noise under acceleration near the top of the rev range.
-whining which sounds like its from front right of the car, starts at about 30mph, after doing a lot of reading on this everything is pointing towards the pinion bearing in the Quattro gearbox.
-parking sensors not working.
-new front discs and pads needed.

yep sounds like your having a nightmare with it, but everyjob done is one less and things will get better sooon mate.
well at least you hav'nt had to have a new short motor, pcv , cam follower, complete turbo & pipework ,new fuel pump, diverter valve etc, complete new powersteering rack and pump, rear wiper motor, both rear light clusters and those were all around the 32k miles mile, i'm on 43k now and touch wood things are stable at the moment.

I'd suggest the N80 as its cheap and literally took me 10 mins to do just the other day and it can be linked to revving issues etc.

Do you have VCDS. I think if you could get that - log for misfires, fuel trims, boost vs request, fueling vs request as start then that could help you try to understand what you are dealing with.

Quattro Gmbh 63 - i feel your pain. it is just one thing after another, that is suprising that yours has needed so much with such little millage. mine has just reached 120k.

DrEvil - the N80 is something i will definitely look at, im going to change the maf sensor at the weekend because when i unplugged it for a couple of weeks it did improve the revving issue a lot. also this weekend im going to fit new spark plugs and a new fuel filter.

With regards to VCDS my mechanic friend does have a diagnostics machine at his garage but to be honest i dont know how indepth it is really. i will be seeing him at the weekend so will ask him.

N80 is definitely a easy job to do yourself
I've changed most of the parts you've mentioned and has resolved loads of problems with mine
Also helps if you are friendly with local Tps

If you aren't friendly with your local TPS use the Parts Request - they've been cheaper than TPS for me (although I think Darren you said your mechanic sources you parts cheap?)

N80 was about £28. Pics in this AZ thread . I got replacement clamps (ebay seller) and have a draper hook an pick set (this thing really makes getting those hoses off not too bad for my car).

I would really consider getting VCDS or trying the VCDS audi-sport map for a friendly user to do some logging of live data yourself - just a few runs logging those parameters and fuel trims etc could give you quite a bit to work with (maybe focus you on particular running lean/rich issues etc)

I can feel your pain. I'm currently working my way through the preventative maintenance list for my 2.0TFSI - N80, PCV valve (both sides), DV (actually fitted a DV+, works well and MRC said it's holding boost very well), cam chain tensioner, oil pickup pipe, alternator clutch pulley (completely seized, worth checking), cambelt with all tensioners and water pump, intake decoke, oil pump tensioner and chain, leaking cam cover etc etc. Luckily I do everything myself so it's just parts costs. Mine also hangs onto revs sometimes. Other times I blip the throttle in neutral and the needle barely moves.

Anyway, back on topic... I had a rattle coming from the front right of my engine bay on cruise or coasting down through the revs. Couldn't pin-point it so asked an Audi master tech to diagnose - they said "knackered turbo, £1200 please". Walked away, took the turbo off myself and found the wastegate wasn't tight, just rattling against the housing. Tightened it up, rattle gone and much improved performance (no more exhaust gasses bypassing the turbine unnecessarily).

I did buy a spare second hand K03 (before diagnosing the wastegate rattle) so have that incase I ever go hybrid (look up Beach Buggy K03 hybrid).
