no engine oil?

Ive checked.my oil in my a3 2.0 tdi and dipstick says full. was curious so removed the oil filler cap and was expecting to see a pool of oil but instead just saw what appeared to maybe be the camshafts with a coating of oil? Is his normal or am i just being paranoid.

The dipstick "dips" the sump, not the rocker cover. Sump is at the bottom...............................
