weird electrics

Hello there -
I've got an odd problem with my indicator -
R/H indicator - fine - all the time -
L/H indicator fine - with the lights off -
With main lights on -
Every time I indicate left - the main headlamp beam comes on as well -
I've discovered if I pull on the stalk as I'm indicating - this will result in the main beam staying off -
doable - but not a safe way to drive - and would like to get it fixed -
Repairable? where would I start? Common problem with the A4/B5's?
Any hints or tips - much appreciated -

Well you can probably get a stalk on ebay for about a fiver, and unless you knew exactly what was wrong inside it, it'd be quite hard to figure out what was going on.
