Hi everyone, just wondered if anyone has had similar problems or would be able to give me any advice.

I've recently bought an Audi A3 3.2 Quattro DSG, when I drove the car it drove quite well I thought for 120,000 but was a little bit harsh when pulling away.

Since that time i've had the car into the garage for a good check over after noticing a knocking coming from the front of the car. It was found that the dogbone mount on the back of the engine was knackered, the downpipes (by the flexi joints) are starting to come apart and one of the driveshafts was knackered. The garage think this is due to the gearbox being harsh pulling away and the engine rocking more then it should. Several people have commented how harsh it is.

Having spoken to the mechanics in the garage (one was my best man, another a good friend) and an Audi specialist garage they thought a software update could fix it through the full version of VAGCOM.

Unfortunately this didn't work as VAGCOM doesn't have the necessary options to update the DSG gearbox. My friend Ken has had his B5 S4 custom mapped by Rick at Unicorn who has suggested it could be the mechatronic unit or a software update / remap might possibly fix it. Unfortunately Rick is quite a distance from me to go up and just see if a remap fixes it.

Has anyone else had problems with DSG boxes being harsh pulling away, sometimes it so difficult to be smooth, especially when you are trying to pull away while still moving 5-10mph. I have also found that 3rd gear isn't as smooth as all the other gears. There were no codes found when it was plugged into a diagnostic machine and there are no lights flashing on the dash or engine management lights.

I also wanted to ask if anyone has used any DSG specialists for problems and could recommend them, I did found someone in Bristol (local to me as I am in Taunton, Somerset) but i'm a bit wary as he is on eBay but not as a proper company it seems, looks like he is operating behind his house. He is calling himself Audi Gearbox Centre but all the eBay reviews are really good.

Here is his eBay advert: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181560273374?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

Any help or advice would be great, thanks in advance

That's how mine was then stated getting stuck in 2nd and 3rd was told by folks autos to get rid ASAP so part ex to audi dealer and got the s3.

My Passat R36 started doing this a few years into ownership when still under warranty. No amount of software tweaks or clutch adaption made any difference to it, ended up getting the mechatronics replaced under warranty from VW and all was well.

I didn't have a warranty and was told I would be looking at 3 grand upwards.

Yeah that's what I thought - probably the mechatronic unit on the way out!! Thought would ask around to see what other people thought

To be honest there is no point me getting rid of the car as i've spent good money getting the car all up together. Will just have to try and find a specialist to repair it - think £3k is probably an Audi price for a brand new unit and fitting can't believe that to repair a unit would be that price.

I've been to see 'Audi Gearbox Centre' in Bristol and they think it is the valve body part of the mechatronic not the ECU part. Has anyone else needed to replace this part? He quoted £700 fitted for a new valve body.
