Fitting An Armrest

I've searched the internet and cant find a guide to fitting an armrest in a 2003 S3 8L
Do I need to remove the plastic trim or does the bracket/mount just fit through the ashtray gap?
It looks like it would be easier to fit with the plastic trim removed but how do I remove that?
And finally, does anyone have the template for the cut out bit I need to do?

Thought they were standard on the S3, good to know for when selling!
