Hi,

refitted my b5 tip yesterday and noticed that the little black plastic bung that sits by the gear linkage has disappeared. I noticed the other day this bung seemed loose and figured that was how it's suppose to be, noticed today that it's now gone.

How important is this little bung ? Not really sure what the hole is for.

Had a similar thing today as i was looking for a coolant leak. The bung was loose just lying on the gearbox next to the hole. So i cleaned it and plugged it back in. Have no idea what the hole is for. :uhm:

its the cover for the gearbox breather, stops crap and water getting in the box

Pretty sure the hole is an inspection hole for the flywheel and to aid with timing marks etc

Thanks for the replies, guess I'll have to have a search around the engine bay, failing that order a new bung from Audi.
