Hi

Every time i change gear it grinds slightly, make no difference if its cold or i have been driving for an hour it still does it. I would say 1st to 2nd is the worst. Anyone else had this issue? if so any easy solutions?

cheers

Try changing box oil to some shock proof stuff, sounds like the syncros are getting worn.
Whats mileage of car?

cheers for the reply. its done 75k. Not sure when the gearbox oil was last changed so maybe worth getting it done. Any idea what the best stuff is to use?

Quite a bit of info on here about these gearboxes. Oil change seems to help most people.

I'm in two minds to do mine. Sometimes its ok, sometimes its bad.

Yep, mine is what I would describe as quite reluctant going into 1st or 2nd from time to time. No grinding though. Can't see a pattern to it. Does it when its cold, does it when it's warm, after it's been battering down the motorway for 3 hours or after 5 mins of town driving from cold. I don't see it for a couple of weeks then I see it every other day. Random.
Some say a lighter viscosity transmission oil cures it. Word has it that Audi say it's an acceptable characteristic of the random bucket of junk they dumped into where a gear box should be.

Oe spec is redline mt90
But I'd use millers CRX 75/90 NT nano technology (I use this in my track cars) or redline shockproof 75/90 or motul gear 300 (good when cold)

Hi,

The gearbox oil I have used along with many others on this forum is Audi approved G 052 171 A2. It's a different viscosity to the standard oil normally used.

I can say it did make a difference to my gear changes and a big improvement!

Re-search this and this is what you will find:

A Special low Viscosity gear oil for VW, AUDI, SEAT manual Transmission 5 speed and 6.
VAG G052 171 A2.

Its definitely worth doing, got mine from my local TPS (Trade Part Specialist)
