Hi,

i mentioned before I had a funny whirring noise come from the engine, I'm pretty sure it's the viscus fan unit is stuck on or bearing is worn. The engine is a 1.9tdi, I haven't had a proper look but what size is the nut and will I need a viscus fan tool? Also are they reverse thread?

Thanks

iain

They are not reverse thread and on my a6 it's a 32mm spanner.

Thanks for the reply, is it just one nut? I was
Thinking of changing the coupling to
Stop the noise? Or can you just change the bearings?

yes 32mm. it is just 1 nut but you need 2 spanners 1 to hold it still whilst the other on the other side of the nut to loosen. There is not enough space for adjustable spanners but I got away with 1 large adjustable and 1 32mm standard spanner. Easy with the right tools
