Audi APY S3 engine seized - replacement options?

Hi guys, first post apologies - I can't find concrete info on this anywhere.

I've got a 99' S3 with a dead engine, which other 1.8T engines (if any) - can I put in it's place?
Obviously I have all ancillaries, just need a bare engine.

The S3 engines are crazy money compared to other 1.8T models...

all transverse will fit , AGU etc just be careful of ARY to name one that has the 19mm wrist pins..Search for golf 1.8T engines, they are usually cheaper..

AGU from an A3 or Golf or AYP from an Ibiza Cupra Mk3...

Avoid AUM, and any other later 150/180hp engine as they have 19mm rods... later ones in particular have tangless crack rods and aren't really a good idea unless changing the rods to forged replacements
